Experience Isn’t Everything: Landing a Job the Trump Way
November 16, 2016 2:30:00 PM

On November 8, 2016, Donald Trump successfully won the election for the highest job in the land with absolutely no political experience. Whether you were telling everyone you know that #ImWithHer or biding to, “Make America Great Again,” one thing about the 2016 election is undeniable: the dark horse is still alive and well!

This election cycle has given way to a new found confidence in all job-seekers. We as Americans have just elected the most politically inexperienced president in our history. Regardless of political beliefs, Trump’s election should remind us all that experience isn’t everything when in pursuit your dreams. If the President can do it, so can you!

Although pursuing a job with little to no experience can be a trying task, do not give up. Following these three tips can help you along your road to success.

Tip 1: Stick Your Foot In That Door!

As cliche as it may sound, we all have to start somewhere. You may not always be able to start at the top of the corporate ladder. Remaining humble in your pursuit will allow you to view your opportunity as a foot-in-the-door vs. starting at the bottom. Stay motivated and willing to learn and your climb to the top will be inevitable.

Tip 2: Get Creative!

Passion can help close the experience gap. Be passionate and creative in your personal presentation. If you lack experience for your desired job, simply play to your strengths. Make the connection for the potential employer. Be able to explain or elaborate on volunteer opportunities, travel, academics, or entrepreneurship that pertains to the job you are seeking.

Tip 3: Confidence is Key!

Often times the best way to overcome the experience gap is to ignore it all together! When all is said and done, you must believe you are qualified or no one else will. As Henry David Thoreau once said, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you imagined.”

There is no need to mention your lack of experience if you approach the job with creativity, confidence, and a willingness to learn. You, like our President, can secure your dream job even when your passion and experience may not align. It is the season of the dark horse! If you’re ready to pursue your ideal career path, then there is no better time to join our team!
