MAU Accepts Prayer Requests for National Day of Prayer

Web Posted: May 02, 2008

(May, 08) “Email us your prayer requests!”  Every year, MAU honors The National Day of Prayer by gathering to pray, but added a twist this year.  “We’re inviting Augustans to email us their prayer requests” said Randy Hatcher, President of MAU, “and we will pray for each one of them.”

The National Day of Prayer is a call to prayer first established in 1775 by the Continental Congress asking the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation.  It was later confirmed by a joint resolution of the US Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1952. President Reagan permanently set every 1st Thursday of May to “intercede for America and its leadership in the seven centers of power: Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church and Family” according to The National Day of Prayer Task Force.

To do its part, MAU offered an invitation to its employees and local Augustans to meet at the flagpole in front of the Marion Hatcher Center (located at 519 Greene Street downtown Augusta) at 12 noon to pray.  “We’re going to pray for our home, the city of Augusta; and what better way than by praying for its citizens?”  Hatcher said.  Over 200 prayer requests were received and prayed for by the 20+ attendees.

With the first sentence of its mission statement as “Honor God in all we do,” MAU feels that prayer is a vital part of its foundation.  Hatcher pointed out that prayer is instrumental at MAU, “We rely on a higher power when making business decisions, and we hope that makes our applicants, our customers and our employees feel better about the direction we take”
