Minority Owned MAU Focuses on Black History Month

Web Posted: Feb 26, 2008

February, 08 - Black History Month typically receives a lot more attention at local schools and college campuses compared to the business community.  However, MAU, Inc., a full service human resources firm, celebrated black history with its Augusta employees this year as both a minority owned enterprise and a workforce solutions provider. Around

2,500 flyers were printed and distributed to MAU employees with February’s payroll this past week.  According to MAU, the goal of the informational flyer was to promote awareness and bring more attention to an important part of America’s history.  The flyer primarily covered two topics: the origins, or history, of Black History Month itself as it expanded from Dr. Carter G. Woodson’s original Negro History week; and eight prominent figures from black history including: Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr.

MAU hopes the effort goes beyond just their employees.  “As a human resources provider, most of our employees work onsite for various local companies, and we hope they share what they learn with their non-MAU co-workers” according to MAU.  “The flyer showed strong promise even prior to its release, as several employees stated they learned new historical facts simply by preparing it.”

MAU’s minority-owned status is due to the President’s, Randy Hatcher, Native American heritage.  He has expressed pride in his heritage and has found that the company’s minority status has helped open doors within several communities.  As a human resource provider, MAU has also found that its minority status has put them in a unique position when attending to a diverse group of job seekers.

MAU, Inc. (Management, Analysis & Utilization) is a certified Native-American owned company specializing in full service human resources, staffing, recruiting and outsourcing with over 12 offices in Georgia, South Carolina and Illinois.
