(August 10, 2004) - The Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), founded in New Jersey in 1986, is a non-profit organization created in response to the growing need to support families without homes. IHN programs are now in many states across the country, and more than 80,000 volunteers are contributing their time to the organization.
Until recently, many have believed the stereotype that only mentally ill or disabled individuals, possibly with substance abuse problems, could become homeless. In reality, up to 40% of America's homeless are families with young children that are simply not able to afford housing. Job loss, rent increase and illness are just a few of the unfortunate reasons that a family may become suddenly without shelter.
One of the most important roles of the IHN is assisting these homeless families with finding jobs that will help secure a home of their own. MAU, Inc. (Management, Analysis & Utilization), a human resource, staffing and recruiting service provider throughout Georgia and South Carolina, has partnered with IHN to help these families and individuals attain professional expertise and counseling about job seeking through job skill assessment, proper resume writing and interview preparation.
"We feel this partnership with Interfaith will really improve the lives of some very deserving families in our community. When the job market slows down, we work very hard to create more job opportunities for families that are caught in these unfortunate situations," Diana Hodge, marketing manager with MAU, Inc. said.
An MAU, Inc. staff person meets with each individual to complete the resume and interviewing process. Each individual then receives personal attention and direction to help them become employed.
"After our guests meet with the staff at MAU, they return to the day center smiling; sharing with me the respect, professionalism, and dignity they received. Many guests have renewed hope about their job possibilities and in addition, have a complete resume for the first time," Amanda Gray, network director at IHNA (Interfaith Hospitality Network of Augusta, GA) said.
MAU, Inc. (Management, Analysis & Utilization) is a certified, minority owned, full-service human resource and staffing company with offices located throughout Georgia, South Carolina and Illinois. MAU, Inc. was founded in 1973 and has steadily grown from a local agency into a multi-faceted business with an international customer base and a presence in 40 states.
