Question: What is outsourcing? Answer: Outsourcing - the strategic use of outside resources to perform activities or to manage a business process traditionally handled by internal staff. What does this definition of outsourcing really mean? Why do companies choose to outsource business processes and functions? What are the benefits of outsourcing?

MAU's recent Outsourcing and Workforce Solutions Seminar on July 22nd at The Augusta Country Club identified and answered many of these questions in an open discussion forum. As an outsourcing services provider, MAU is aware of the fact that the term 'outsourcing' has grown increasingly controversial because the practice affects both blue-collar and white-collar workers' jobs. Through frequent practices of shipping operations overseas, companies are viewed as showing disloyalty to American workers, pushing down their wages, and hurting the nation's economy.

While there is some validity to the controversy, MAU uses a very different type of outsourcing model. MAU's outsourcing processes could more accurately be identified as 'insourcing'. MAU's Outsourcing Services division creates and maintains local jobs in the U.S. while helping its clients become more competitive through efficient business processes, lower costs, and increased profits.

The Outsourcing and Workforce Solutions Seminar included special expert panel members Terry Shrum, Human Resource Manager for Robert Bosch Corporation and Lewis Creel, Human Resource Director for Alcoa Primary Metals. Discussions covered various MAU outsourcing projects at Robert Bosch, Alcoa, John Deere, Monsanto and Savannah River Site.
