Free to Public: Career Transition Workshops Planned in Greenville SC, Charleston SC & Augusta GA/Aiken SC

SC Upstate – March 2009 – Jobseekers from all industries are invited to a free Career Transition Workshop held by MAU, a workforce solutions provider, on March 31 at Greenville Tech. The half-day workshop is typically offered as part of a layoff or severance package from employers, but will be available on a first come first serve basis. The workshop, “How to Survive a Layoff” will provide attendees career counseling designed specifically for active job seekers such as financial planning, networking strategies, resume preparation and internet job search tips.

“Our approach to providing outplacement services today is largely influenced by the fact that my father lost his job at age 48.” Randy Hatcher, MAU’s president explained, “In this time of economic hardship, we want to give back to our community by helping as many people possible during these tough times.”

Career Transition Services, commonly known as “outplacement” in the Human Resources field, tend to be relatively unknown. As a result, many laid off employees neglect the service, even when it is included in their layoff package. “It’s like neglecting to visit the Department of Labor to pick up your unemployment check,” according to MAU’s HR Director, Maritza Torres, “unemployment is a fulltime job and jobseekers should take advantage of every opportunity, especially if there is no cost to them.”

Companies use career transition services, similar to the upcoming workshop, primarily to serve employee morale or public reputation. However, many firms realize bottom-line results from reduced unemployment if workers find new jobs quickly. Ultimately, businesses choose to offer outplacement because they wish to do “the right thing” Torres says.

Limited seating is available, but MAU will also be holding workshops for jobseekers in the Augusta/Aiken area, GA/SC on April 1 and for jobseekers in Charleston, SC on April 2. Anyone interested can visit www.mau.com for more information.
