How to Improve Your Employer Brand Presence in 2016 Using Social Media

Posted by Alana Davis on Feb 11, 2016 9:55:15 AM

Last week, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the January 2016 employment data. Just one month into the year, job openings rose by 151,000 and the low unemployment rate remained steady at 4.9%, indicating little hope for employers already feeling the weight of a talent shortage and the importance of retaining employees for the long haul. The good (and bad) news? A recent survey through Indeed found that more than 50% of US workers are considering a new job in 2016. So, while that may mean some of your workforce is considering a change, there has never been a better time to strengthen your Employer Brand presence online. And fortunately, through social media platforms including LinkedIn and Facebook, as well as a dramatic increase in job board usage, you have the right tools at your fingertips.

Last year, Jobvite released a survey sharing that 56% of job seekers look to social media to learn about an employer, with Facebook getting the largest share of that portion at 28%. If your Facebook feed is limited to stuffy press releases and corporate announcements, it's time to add a little fun. Share stories of community involvement, where employees engaged with a local charity or participated in a fundraiser such as Relay for Life. Or consider highlighting an employee every month; this could be recognition for his/her specific contribution to the company or someone sharing how working for your organization has impacted his/her life. At MAU, "It Runs in the Family" winners and community stories often receive the most engagement.

If you are looking to improve your Employer Brand presence, as well as engage new talent that will stay with your organization for a long time, consider reviewing your current social media platforms and changing your approach. As job openings continue to rise, along with employees confidence in finding new opportunities, it can only improve your talent and recruiting efforts!
