4 Traits that Promote Success
February 16, 2013 1:41:00 AM

We all strive for success, but there are no specific guidelines for reaching our goals.  However, there are a few behaviors that successful people practice and research insists generate prosperity. CEOs Andrea Jung (Avon), Tim Cook (Apple), and Robert Iger (Disney) admit they begin the day early, workout, and make sure to have quiet time before beginning work.  Make these 4 activities into habits to encourage your success.

Wake Early:

Several studies indicate that those who wake early are more likely to succeed. In 2010, Harvard biologist Christoph Randler found that people who regularly wake early are more proactive, more likely to anticipate problems, and handle complications more efficiently.Similarly, numerous studies have shown that morning people are often optimistic, congenial, content, and dependable.

Physical activity benefits all of you, not just your body. It jump-starts your metabolism and gives you energy, but more importantly, exercise has been proven to deepen sleep cycles and increase mental acuteness. Exercising for 20 minutes wakens your mind and boosts your mood for hours, leaving you to face the day with a positive attitude. Lastly, consistent exercise helps prevent numerous health concerns, such as stroke, arthritis, type II diabetes, and depression.

Goal Setting:

Visualization is key: if you want success, you have to imagine it.  Start by setting personal goals; what do you want to accomplish today, tomorrow, next month?  By focusing on internal forces rather than blaming external forces (relationships, traffic, the economy, etc.), find ways you can improve circumstances at work.  Each morning, spend a few minutes writing and revising goals.  Envision yourself achieving them, and don’t forget to celebrate the goals you have already accomplished.

It’s important to keep up with what’s going on in the world, but there’s no need to dampen the day by watching the news obsessively.  Instead, read the articles available on sites like Yahoo or Bing. That way, you can keep up with the global market statuses, the latest stock points, scientific innovations, and anything that may pertain to your employment.

It only takes 30 days to form a habit, so stop procrastinating and start today; the sooner you begin, the closer you will be to attaining your ambitions and achieving success!
