A job fair– also know as a hiring event or a career fair or expo- is typically conducted by employers or schools offering on-the-spot interviews to interested candidates. Tip 1: Know Before You Go!

First things first, read the event description. The event description will include all of the necessary information to attend the job fair. Always be sure you know the date, time, location, and are aware of any documentation you’ll need to bring to the event. You will also want to find out what companies will be in attendance and which job opportunities they will be conducting interviews for at the event. This will give you the opportunity to do some additional research prior to attending the event.  The more information you know before you go, the better your chance for success at the job fair.

Tip 2: Follow Instructions

One sure way to stand out for all of the wrong reasons is to NOT follow instructions.

After reading the event description be sure to do what is asked of you. The hiring company might require you to park in a certain location, bring specific documentation, or schedule an appointment prior to attending. Whatever the instruction, but sure to follow the rules set forth.

Tip 3: Allot Adequate Time

Like with any event, it’s impossible to predict exactly how many people will show up. Often times, hiring events generate strong walk-in traffic. You can’t always predict how many people will attend or how long you may need to be present at the event. Be sure to allot enough time in your schedule to be at the event and maximize your time. Don’t poorly schedule and end up missing your chance to meet the hiring team.
