Finding Excellent Customer Service Talent: Local Call Centers Gather to Discuss Challenges and Share Ideas
August 29, 2017 9:29:13 PM

More than a dozen call centers gathered recently to participate in the Greenville Chamber’s roundtable, sponsored by MAU Workforce Solutions. The purpose was to help the Chamber gain a better understanding of those issues that “keep you up at night,” such as workforce/talent retention and growth in technology, which gives the Chamber a deeper understanding of one of Greenville’s key industry clusters. In addition, attendees were able to connect with industry peers in a neutral setting to share ideas and best practices.

Given that the unemployment rate in Greenville is 3.1%, more than one point lower than the national rate of 4.3%, it is no surprise that the most common issue facing the customer service industry was the struggle to find qualified talent. Considering the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the customer service industry to grow 10% by 2024 that challenge is not going away anytime soon.  Here are a few of the ways call centers in Greenville are addressing the issue:

  • Embrace Remote Work – Allowing employees to work from home is an effective way to attract talent, as more and more, individuals are looking for remote work opportunities. Regulations for many companies keep this from being an option but if you are able to overcome those obstacles it does prove to attract more candidates.

  • Provide Attendance Bonuses – Another way to not only attract, but retain talent is through paying out bonuses for perfect attendance after a certain period of time.

  • Review Recruitment Processes – The methods used to recruit talent are constantly evolving. By taking time to review and adjust your current process, companies are finding opportunity to improve the process and getting the right people in the door from the beginning.
